Mangoes are the most popular exotic fruit, both in southeast Asia and in the West. The fruits can weigh up to 2 kilos. Alphonso, a mango from India, is the most commonly exported variety.
Mangoes can also be prepared sweet and sour as chutney: the fruit is then served with cane sugar, vinegar, chilli, fresh ginger, spices, garlic, etc. This goes well with cheese sandwiches, stewed meat and fish.
