Like raspberries, strawberries belong to the rose family. These red (false) fruits have always been a delicacy.

Strawberries really only taste good when freshly picked; their fragrance when fresh is unsurpassed.

In Italy and France, ripe strawberries are dipped or soaked in red wine and eaten for dessert. Eton mess is the perfect strawberry recipe: crushed strawberries are layered with whipped cream and meringue. Served at Eton College’s graduation celebration.

Dip fresh strawberries in melted dark chocolate, leave to set on baking paper and serve as a dessert or just use to garnish.

Roughly chop some nice, mature strawberries and mix in the blender with the same amount of jam sugar for about 10 minutes, until the mixture starts to warm up. Pour into jam jars and close with lids. This kind of jam can be kept in the fridge for 3 months. Ideal for quick ice cream desserts.
